De Coders Cafe
De Coders Cafe
Balmoral Plaza, Singapore
10 May 2008
De Coders Cafe is a new games cafe at the basement of Balmoral Plaza in Newton. And we SPI-ders were there to meet up and review the place.
The menu is not very extensive; just burgers, pasta, cakes, ice creams and a short list of fancy coffees.
I was so hungry, I could have eaten a small horse. But there was none, so I had to settle for the Ocean Catch Pasta. And it was yum. Nice tangy tomato base complemented the fresh, generous chunks of seafood. I should have taken a picture for you, but I was too focused on eating. ( I already said I was hungry, okay).
Prices are affordable, only $8 for my pasta, add $3.50, you get a soup and a drink. I also had a scoop of vanilla ice cream, but it was of the common variety, so I suggest you give that a miss.
The layout is cosy but there are tables that can accomodate even big groups of 15 people. Where I was sitting, at the couch area, it was a bit uncomfortable, because we were playing on a coffee table, and so i was hunched over in a funny position most of the time. Maybe they should throw cushions on the floor and carpet the area instead.
The place, even though it's just starting up, already has a wide variety of games. Taboo, Snorta, Pictionary and even PINK JENGA! The staff there are friendly and will help pick out suitable games for you. For the lazy or illiterate, you don't even have to read the instructions, you can get staff to just tell you how to play. It's good fun for family and friends. They say you learn a lot about people when you play games with them and it's true, you know.
My hairstylist, William , mentioned to me on my last visit about 2 months back, that when I start dating a new guy, I should play a game with him. You should look at how competitive he is, whether he lets you win, or takes a loss badly. It will tell you how pettty or selfish or egositic a guy is. I think he's right about this. So this might be a good place to take a date... test the waters.
On a side note: as I left the salon, he also called out "I hope next time you come back, you have a boyfriend already". I know he means well, but it hit me like a slap in the face. haha. But he's a nice guy, he even tried to set me up with a friend. Of course I declined, I trust his taste in hair, but not in men.
(stop digressing Holly!)
If you're going to just have a light dinner, be in an easy and laid back setting, play games and chill for a couple of hours, you'd spend only about $15 a person, all inclusive.

Now, whose turn is it? :)
Have never been to a games cafe before. But it do seems interesting with so many games available. Maybe will find someday to go and check it out.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I can see that you are happily 'introducing' your pretty Angel to people :)
I never catch up playing games with you people...
ReplyDeleteSigh!
