Myla Rae has not got the best digestive system... her digestive system was not fully developed yet when she was born. A leaky gut meant she had loads of problems digesting and always had Gastrointestinal distress from inflamed intestines. If your baby is the same, hang in there, it only gets better. Especially now that she is older, it has gotten so so so much better. And it's such a relief that she enjoys exploring new food and tastes.
Here are 5 of the easiest first foods to digest and unlikely to provoke an allergic reaction. Myla Rae loves them.
Carrots are rich in beta-carotene, the plant form of vitamin A. I just give her steamed little sticks she can hold with her hands. She loves sucking and gumming on this naturally sweet snack.
Sweet potato is a good source of potassium, vitamin C, and fiber. She likes this best when I steam it and then blend it into a smooth puree.
Baby rice should be the first cereal you introduce because it does not contain gluten so it is easily digested and has a milky taste that helps to ease your baby's transition from a purely milk-based diet to solids. She takes Friso Gold Rice-Based Cereal and loves the taste and texture. I use it as a thickener for my purees, works well with sweet pureed peaches.
Bananas are a convenient and portable baby food... no need to wash or cook. I feed her bananas by just peeling and holding it up to her mouth. For some reason, she does NOT like to hold bananas on her own ( I think she doesn't like the slippery squishy feeling haha), but she loves eating them.
Red meat provides the best source of iron for babies, especially when their iron reserves start to drop after 6 months old. I boil meat on the bone (with marrow!) into a thick tasty broth. Some sources say to wait until 8 months to introduce meat (so you may want to wait), yet some other sources say actually meat is easier to digest than vegetables! We started when she was 6 months and have never had any issues with it. It has always been a very small amount of meat (shredded very finely, she does not have teeth yet) and most of the goodness is within the broth.
For weeks before we introduced solids to Myla Rae, she would watch us intently every time we ate anything. And whenever I brought whatever I was eating close to her mouth, she would open it widely and excitedly. But if your baby doesn’t take to solid food so enthusiastically when you introduce it, don’t worry. Just keep offering your baby a good variety and when she’s ready, she will show you.(Don’t need to force feed!)
For now, up until a baby is 1 year old, milk should be the main thing in a baby’s diet anyway. They will get all the nutrients and calories they need from milk. For Friso milk formulas, there is the LockNutri Process Technology™ which preserves proteins in its natural form so it’s easy for your child to absorb and digest. Proteins in formula milk can easily be destroyed by heat, making it hard for the body to absorb and can cause protein indigestion and general stomach discomfort.
Kids learn from experiences whether big or small, good or bad. That’s why Friso provides the right nutrition for your child to be strong inside to take on challenges.
