With this new strain of Covid hitting young kids and the increase in community cases... I’m sure most parents would understand my worries about sending them out to school.
So Adamson & I have decided to keep them home for the time being to minimise exposure as much as we can.
I will miss taking them out for meals and our occasional fun detours on the way to school or on the way home from school.
But their preschool is just a few hours each day, they’ve never been in ChildCare/daycare ... so the adjustment of being home bound is not a huge one. Even so, I’ve decided to use a more structured routine to their day so they won’t feel that it’s much different from being in school.
From 12pm to 2.30 pm we do mummy’s home school! This is around the time they are in preschool usually (MJ’s pre-nursery is 12-2.30 and Myla’s kindy is 12-3.30pm).
12pm: Assembly (National Anthem & pledge, announcements)
12.10pm: English
(Vocab and new words for both kids)
(English assessment book for Myla, Colouring book for MJ)
(Spelling words for Myla)
12.40pm: Mathematics
(Self play with Number blocks for MJ while I teach Myla math)
(Myla does assessment book to practice what she just learnt, while I play number puzzles with MJ)
1.10pm: Snack Break & talk nonsense lol
1.25pm: Chinese
(I can’t teach Chinese so Myla just practices writing characters using assessment books for now. MJ gets exposed to numbers and simple phrases, he’s very resistant ugh)
1.45pm: Story time & Songs
(Myla reads a book to MJ)
(They Sing whatever they want lol)
2pm: PE
Some physical exercise (dance or basketball or cycle along the downstairs corridor or swim if there’s no one else at the pool). Added bonus if daddy has time to join us for PE time!
Here’s a video of snippets from one day at Mummy’s Home School. :)
The biggest challenge is in coordinating the lesson so that both kids get enough attention and guidance even though they’re both learning at different levels (because different ages - 5 and 2). And another challenge is me not being lazy or complacent... got to keep up the energy and effort. Lol
Do share with me if u have any websites or even YouTube videos which may be helpful to incorporate into the class. And are there any fun educational toys for preschoolers you can recommend?
Hope we can return to normal life soon.
Meanwhile, stay safe everyone. Let’s do our best with social distancing and make the most out of staying home.๐จ๐ฉ๐ง๐ฆ❤️๐ธ๐ฌ
